| Lara's theme from "Doctor Zhivago" from the original MGM reel-to-reel soundrack albumThu, 08 Jan 2009 04:52:42 -0800 by VinylToVideoClick here for Stereo: http://www.youtube.c om/watch?v=ZwBwU6_CH Fc&fmt=18Artist: MGM Studio Orchestra conducted by Maurice JarreTitle: Lara's theme from "Doctor Zhivago" (by Maurice Jarre)Album: "'Dr. Zhivago:' The Original Soundtrack Album"Label: MGM RecordsCat No: STC 4343Release Year: 1965Country: USAFormat: 1/4" quarter track 7½ IPS reel to reel tapeYou'll notice this is on a different machine than my other reel-to-reel posts. I bought this older Sony deck for my second system and to also post videos on YouTube since it is much lighter than my other deck and easier to move to my computer. My Pioneer deck is far better but it's a little hard to post reel videos as it weighs an absolute ton and I need the machine close to my computer so the recording is "direct line" (was much easier when I had my laptop!). This Sony deck isn't bad but is not "high end" like my other is. It's a portable model from the late 60s with a built in amp and the distortion level seems to be rather high. One feature I like about this Sony machine is that it has the ability to play the tape in reverse (as it is here in this video) and also has auto-reverse; strangely my other machine doesn't. Compare this video to my other reel-to-reel posts and you'll see what I mean sound wise. The problem could be with the tape as this is the first time I've ever played it and I also used a new movie making program for the first time here. I didn't like the new program much but my normal one keeps freezing on me. Not that bad I suppose. | Oprah's Weight Loss Confession 2-4Thu, 08 Jan 2009 04:49:19 -0800 by linestLarry talks with his panel about Oprah Winfrey's struggle with her weight and how she is dealing with it.It's no secret that Oprah has struggled with her weight for decades. Over the years, she's spoken candidly about bouncing from one diet to the next, emotional eating and her drug of choice?potato chips. In 1988, The Oprah Show received its highest ratings of all time when Oprah celebrated a 67-pound weight loss by wheeling a wagon full of fat onto the stage. Soon after, her size 10 jeans didn't zip and the pounds began to add up again. In 1992, Oprah met personal trainer Bob Greene. At the time, she weighed 237 pounds, the heaviest she says she's ever been. She made a commitment to her health, began to lose weight and even ran a marathonbut the weight loss roller coaster continued. When Oprah turned 50 in 2004, she seemed to have her health and weight under control. For years, she maintained her figure with diet and exercise. She says she thought she had it all figured out, but in 2007, as Oprah dealt with emotional and medical issues, the number on the scale began to creep closer to 200.To begin living her best life, Oprah's speaking candidly about what she calls "the brown elephant in the room"?her weight gain. Oprah says her size really hit home in May 2008 while taping a show with two music legends, Tina Turner and Cher. "Like every woman who has a special occasion coming up, you want to look special," she says. "I feel the same way everybody else feels when you get up in the morning and you go to put on something and it doesn't fit."As the Las Vegas audience cheered, Oprah kept a smile on her face and hid her true feelings. "There I am during the Tina and Cher show feeling like, 'How in the world did I let this happen to myself again?'" she says. "I was embarrassed, and I wanted to be anyplace other than there. Tina Turner and Cher are American icons. They still look great. So the anxiety of, 'Okay, now I've got to put myself on a big stage and stand between Tina and Cher and try to make myself not be as big as I am.'"When Oprah found out Tina wanted her to come onstage and sing along to "Proud Mary," she says she told a producer she didn't want to do it. "I was standing on the side, perfectly happy and thinking, 'This is going well,'" Oprah says. Then, Tina spontaneously called her onto the stage. "I thought, 'God, help me now. How can I put myself between them? Can I put half of my body behind Cher's? Well, Cher's body is half of my body, so that's hard. How can I hide myself here on this stage and not have to be up here?'" she says. "I felt awful. I wanted to just disappear."Oprah says money, fame and success don't mean anything if you can't control your own being. "It doesn't mean anything if you can't fit into your clothes," she says. "It means the fat won. It means you didn't win. I am mad at myself. I am embarrassed."After all these years, Oprah says she can't believe she's still discussing this topic. "With all the other things that I know how to do and all the other things that I'm so great at and all the other accomplishments, I can't believe I'm still talking about weight," she says.In January 2005, Oprah showed off her toned, 160-pound body in a tummy-baring top on the cover of O, The Oprah Magazine. At the time, she says she thought she'd conquered the battle of the bulge once and for all. "[I was] so happy with myself," she says. "I would even say I was probably cocky about it. When I was in this moment, I never thought that I would be 40 pounds heavier."Four years later, Oprah, who now weighs 200 pounds, says the role of "cover girl" was much less appealing. "This past year's been really difficult because I didn't feel like being a cover girl," she says. "I wasn't proud of my body and, therefore, didn't want to show my body and didn't really want to be seen."Oprah says she dreaded the moment each month when she'd have to try on clothes in front of a team of 20 people. When a pair of pants didn't fit or a shirt was too tight, Oprah says she felt embarrassed. The solution? Throughout 2008, Oprah says she's worked with magazine editors to camouflage her figure. "All this year, I've been hiding my body because I didn't want you to see it," she says. "Here I am, one of the most visible people in the world, trying not to be seen on the cover of my own magazine."Oprah says turning 50 felt fantastic, as did 51 and 52. After celebrating her 53rd birthday, she began having health problems. | 5 Minutes Bible Study - The Tug Of GravityThu, 08 Jan 2009 04:42:15 -0800 by Faith1316THE TUG OF GRAVITY by Dr. Harold SalaWe are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8Walking, for the last time, through the house that I had lived in for some 20 years couldnt help but evoke emotions. After two decades, we somewhat reluctantly decided the time had come to move, and so we did. But I couldnt help remembering the dinners we had with parents and friends, most of whom are now in heaven, the years our children grew up, times of celebrations and the noise of everyone trying to talk at once. It was quiet, almost deathly quiet. It wasnt that I disliked leaving the house behind as much as the never-to-be-repeated memories. We moved to another house which meant less driving time. Trying to leave some of the memories behind, I got to thinking about heaven, and the fact that the closer we get to it, the more theres a gravitational pull--something which tugs at the heart and blurs the thoughts of what is left behind. You know, friend, when someone leaves us, we sorrow not because a body is worn out and tired, realizing that the person we mourn will get a new body. But we are saddened by the loss of one we love, the never-to-be-repeated memories, and the fear of walking alone into the future.James Irwin, one of the 12 men to walk on the moon and a committed Christian, was our guest on Guidelines for Living Television several times. Although he is now with the Lord, we will always remember him as one of the most gracious people we ever met, willing to sign endless autographs and pose for endless pictures, including one with our grandson William.William, who then was five years of age, had worn glasses since he was 12 months old. He loved them, too, because without them he saw quite poorly. Every night he wanted his dad and mom to put his glasses near his bed so he could put them on first thing in the morning when he woke up. The following conversation took place some time after he met Jim Irwin.William was looking out of the car window to find the moon and he said, Daddy, whats the moon made of?His father, Donald, replied, Its made of rocks and dust, William. Astronaut James Irwin went to the moon and walked around on it, and thats how we know what its made of. Do you remember that Astronaut Irwin held you in his arms when you were little?William thought for a few moments and then said, No, I dont remember. Is he dead, Dad?Donald answered, Hes gone to heaven and hes with Jesus now.William said, Daddy, I dont think Ill recognize him in heaven.Oh, yes, countered Donald, adding, Well all be able to recognize each other in heaven. Astronaut Irwin will say, Oh, I know you--you were the little boy I held in my arms at Guidelines.Trying to take it all in William emphatically added, Then Im going to sleep with my glasses in my hand from now on so Ill be able to recognize him!Is it any wonder that Jesus commended the faith of a little child? Paul made it very plain that for the child of God, to leave our earthly home and go to the one prepared in heaven means being absent from the body but at home with the Lord. When sorrow dims your eyes, keep your glasses handy. You may be surprised whom you will find waiting for you just inside the Golden Gate.Resource reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-13.
