| Viktor Belenko and your Mig-25PThu, 08 Jan 2009 06:20:23 -0800 by NewVizaarViktor Ivanovich Belenko (?????? ???????? ???????) (born February 15, 1947) is an American aerospace engineer and lecturer of Russian origin. Belenko was a pilot with the 513th Fighter Regiment, 11th Air Army, Soviet Air Defence Forces based in Chuguyevka, Primorsky Krai. His name became known worldwide on September 6, 1976, when he successfully defected to the West, flying his Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 "Foxbat" jet fighter to Hakodate, Japan. This was the first time that Western experts were able to get a close look at the aircraft, and it revealed many secrets and surprises.Belenko was granted asylum by then US President Gerald Ford, and a trust fund was set up for him, granting him a very comfortable living in later years. The US interrogated and debriefed him for 5 months after his defection, and employed him as a consultant for several years thereafter. The MiG was disassembled, examined, and returned to the USSR in thirty crates. Belenko had brought with him the pilot's manual for the MiG-25 "Foxbat," expecting to assist American pilots in evaluating and testing the aircraft. However, the Japanese government only allowed the US to examine the plane and do ground tests of the radar and engines.[citation needed]Belenko was not the only pilot to have defected from the USSR in this way, nor was he the first such to defect from a Soviet-bloc country. In March and May 1953, two Polish pilots flew MiG-15s to Denmark. In 1985 and 1987, USSR-owned helicopters in the Afghanistan theatre of operations defected to Pakistan. Captain Alexander Zuyev flew his MiG-29 to Trabzon, Turkey on May 20, 1989.The financial impact of Belenko's defection was enormous.[citation needed] The Soviet Ministry of Defence abandoned the construction of two aircraft carriers in favour of fully replacing the system of target-classificatio n on all Soviet military aircraft and spent over 2 billion roubles to that end Related: viktor ivanovich belenko mig-25p ?????? ???????? ??????? russian pilot 513th fighter regiment video tv docu | |

| UN: No Hamas fighters in targeted schoolThu, 08 Jan 2009 06:10:13 -0800 by ArchivesAlgeriennesThe head of the UN agency in Gaza running the school that was attacked by Israel forces has rejected claims that Hamas fighters were inside the converted shelter. The Israeli military accused Hamas of using civilians sheltering inside the building as "human shields" and said its troops had returned fire after fighters fired mortars at their positions from within al-Fakhora school in the Jabaliy More..a refugee camp. But John Ging, the director of operations in Gaza for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (Unrwa), told reporters that he had visited the school during a three-hour lull in the fighting on Wednesday and "was reassured by the management of the school ... that there were no militants in the school".'No militant activity'Ging added that these were his "own staff, senior, experienced, long-serving staff"."I am very confident now that there was no militant activity inside the school nor militants in the school," he said.He also reiterated a call for an independent investigation into the incident."If anybody has evidence to the contrary, then let's bring it forward," Ging said. The Israeli strike on Tuesday left 43 Palestinians dead and about 100 injured. At least 700 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and nearly 3,085 wounded since Israel's military offensive began on December 27.Seven Israeli soldiers and three civilians have died in the same period. The Israeli army said on Wednesday it stood by its statement issued the day before in which it claimed that mortars had been fired "from within" the school, but then issued another statement later dropping the word "within" to say "mortar fire from" the school.'Important distinction'Chris Gunness, a spokesman for Unrwa, said this was "an extremely important distinction because we have been accused of very serious allegations that our premises were being used to fire rockets".Michel Abdel Massih QC, a London-based international human rights lawyer, also called for an independent investigation."If [Israeli] claims are to be tested properly we need an independent tribunal. The International Criminal Court was set up to deal with these issues, so there is a mechanism for the UN security council to refer the case for investigation," he told Al Jazeera. When asked if Israel would allow such an investigation, Mark Regev, a spokesman for the Israeli prime minister, said Israel had already held an "initial investigation" which found that troops had returned fire from the UN building.Regev accused Hamas, the Palestinian faction that controls the Gaza Strip, of committing a "war crime" by using those sheltering in the UN school as "a human shield".The incident has provoked strong international condemnation with Ban-Ki-moon, secretary-general of the United Nations, branding both the incident and Hamas rocket attacks as "unacceptable" Related: gaza dead cold blood atrocities israel army jihad cnn afp bbc idf childrens war fox cbs itn new york clash air strike missile norway sweden denmark obama germany america f-16 bush terrorism israeli england palestine iran usa hamas islam jews washington muslims iraq algerie australia algeria tv france china anger russia allah egypt carnage women girl death humanity babys terrorist massacre crimes zionist scenes heart news murder young people american shame world | |

| Su-37 Multirole one seaterThu, 08 Jan 2009 05:53:51 -0800 by NewVizaarThe Sukhoi Su-37 (NATO designation 'Flanker-F') is a Russian multi-role jet fighter aircraft. It is a single seat experimental fighter derived from the Su-27 "Flanker" for thrust vector control testing. The Su-37 is derived from the Su-35, which was initially designated Su-27M. The Su-27M development began in the early 1980s.[3] A Su-27M prototype (T-10S-70) first flew in 1988. Changes from the Su-27 include canards, upgraded engines, new radar, and a digital fly by wire flight control system.[4] Sukhoi changed the Su-27M's designation to Su-35 in 1993. Later Su-35 prototypes added a glass cockpit and modified tailfins.[3]The Su-35 design was modified into the Su-37 by adding 2D thrust vectoring nozzles. The Su-37 test aircraft made its maiden flight in April 1996 equipped with vectoring nozzles. The Su-37 appeared at the 1996 Farnborough airshow piloted by Sukhoi test pilot Eugeny Frolov Related: su-37 multirole flanker-f russian fighter aircraft sukhoi vectoring nozzles video tv docu | |
