| That's What You Think: A Jonas Brothers Story. SEQUEL Chapter 1Wed, 07 Jan 2009 15:49:06 -0800 by LuvJoeKevinNickJonasCome on, Nick. We're gonna be late."Nick lifted his head out of his pillow at the sound of Kevin's dreary voice. "I'm coming." He coughed, wiping his watering eyes. He numbly pulled himself upright. He threw his head in his hands and let out a deep breath."Go ahead out to the car," Kevin whispered, his expression immediately softening when Nick marched down the steps wearing Joe's jacket. "You're still wearing that?" He whispered weakly, his voice cracking."Yeah." Nick nodded, sniffing slightly. Kevin looked awkwardly at Nick for a split second, until Nick broke the eye contact by looking down. "I'll be in the car," He informed as he slumped out into the freezing January air."Are you, um-" Kevin paused midsentence as he started the car. "Okay?" Nick stayed silent for a second, until clearing his throat. "Never better." He bit his lip."Look, Nick." Kevin started as he focused his red eyes on the icy road. "I know it's not easy for you. It's not easy for me, either but-""Please, Kevin-" Nick cut him off "Not now." Nick let his head fall to the freezing window. It'd been one month since Joe had died, and it seemed like everything in the world was going wrong for Nick. The only time he ever saw Christy was at school. She showered him with hugs, and "I'm sorry"s, but Nick just continued to pretend like he didn't care. He managed to keep Joe's death a secret around the school, fortunately, because he didn't know if he could handle over two hundred kids feeling equally sorry for him at the same time. Nick didn't care about anything anymore. The only time he came out of his room was to go to school. The only time he ever ate was when Kevin forced him. The only time he ever talked, was when he needed to answer a question that required more than a head nod. He hated the cold. It reminded him of the chill that shot through the air as he watched his older brother fall to his knees and speak his last words. "So," Kevin smiled nervously, trying to break the awkward silence. "Are you excited?" Nick let his head roll to the other side to face Kevin's distraught expression."About what.""The audition!" Kevin raised his eyebrows, "Who knows, you could get a record deal!" Nick smirked slightly, before closing his eyes and pulling his head to face the window again. Yeah Right. A record deal? Kevin has been trying to get Nick more involved in music, driving him to auditions for recording contracts, and getting him publicized, but Nick just didn't have the energy. He loved music, it was pretty much all he had now, but he just couldn't pull it together to be the center of attention."Probably not." Nick whispered, he wasn't in the mood for enthusiasm."Why not? I think you have a huge chance to-""It's my first audition, Kevin." Nick interrupted. "Nobody gets signed on their first audition. There's no hope.""Who knows!?" Kevin smiled again. "You could get lucky-""Let's face it." Nick cut him off. "I'm not exactly what you would call lucky." Kevin was finally silent as he stared off into the icy afternoon. "Well, we're here." He finally mumbled, avoiding all eyecontact. Nick felt a familiar wave of guilt pass through him as he realized that he had crushed Kevin's enthusiasm, again. He immediately shook it away and pulled himself out of the car."Nicholas Jonas?" A secretary rolled her eyes up over her crescent glasses, smacking her gum as she aligned papers on her desk."Nick." Nick corrected, his hands stuffed into the warm pockets of Joe's jacket. The secretary nighted slighty. "You can go on in to room 89." She pointed to the direction."Thank you," Kevin grinned lightly as he he grabbed Nick's slumped shoulders and guided him to the room."87....88.....8 9," Kevin counted down as they arrived in front of the room. "Knock 'em dead, Nick." Nick bit his lip. "Kind of like you did to Joe?"HIs eyes immediately widened. That was a low blow, and he knew it. He shook his head as his lip started quivering."No, No, No!" He grabbed Kevin's arm. "I didn't mean, that-"Kevin looked down, his eyes brimming with tears. Nick felt his head pounding. STUPID STUPID STUPID was the only word that flew through it. "I'm sorry, Kevin! I didn't mean, that, oh God no. That was really bad, I didn't mean it-""You should probably head in," Kevin swallowed, nodding his head and pointing to the door."No! Kevin!" Nick felt the tears building up. "I didn't mean that! I-""They're waiting for you." Kevin's gaze remained on the floor. "Good luck." He pulled his arm out of Nick's grip and turned away. Nick watched Kevin walk away, and almost went after him. He couldn't believe what he had just said. He turned his throbbing head to meet the sight of the beige door, that sickeningly reminded him of the hospital walls. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down again. He cleared his throat, shakily turned the golden door knob, And walked in. Related: jonas brothers forever doesn't last story | |
