Maurice Renaud - Selections from Damnation of Faust (Berlioz)Tue, 06 Jan 2009 17:32:18 -0800 by merrihewOne more Maurice Renaud posting. This time singing two selections from Berlioz' Damnation of Faust: Voici Des Roses and Devant La Maison. Both recorded for G&T in 1906. This posting benefits from the fact that I used a circa 1950 HMV repressing which is in vastly superior sound compared to the original pressings. I know that there are run out grooves here which were missing on the originals but its obvious that they were grafted on. A spectacular pair of records. See my Renaud Wagner posting for pictures and more info. Related: maurice renaud berlioz faust g&t hmv

Sir Harry Lauder "A Wee Doch & Doris 2"Tue, 06 Jan 2009 10:44:34 -0800 by rego21aSir Harry Lauder: 1870-1950"A Wee Deoch-an-Doris" [1928 HMV 78 recording]I have previously posted the early edison cylinder recording of this song here is the later 1928 HMV 78 recording.Henry McLennan Lauder [Stage name Harry Lauder] was born at Portobello, Edinburgh in the home of his maternal grandfather.Sir Harry is said to have started his music-hall career as an Irish comedian. He toured the world extensively during his forty-year career, including 22 trips to the United States, and several to Australia. He was, at one time, the highest-paid performer in the world, and was the first British performer to sell more than a million records. His appeal was not only limited to popular tastes; he was a favourite of King Edward VII and a friend of Sir Thomas Lipton, the tea merchant. When World War I broke out, Lauder was in Melbourne on one of his Australian tours.During the war, he led successful fundraising efforts for war charities, organised a tour of music halls in 1915 for recruitment purposes, and entertained the troops under enemy fire in France. He suffered personal tragedy during the war, when his only son, John, a captain in the 8th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, was killed in action. For his services during the war, Lauder was knighted in January 1919.Sir Harry wrote most of his own songs, favourites of which include Roamin' in the Gloamin', I Love a Lassie, A Wee Deoch-an-Doris, and Keep Right on to the End of the Road.Sir Harry, made hundreds of recordings over the span of his career. This is the 1928 HMV 78 recording of "A Wee Deoch-an-Doris"Sir Harry's final retirement was announced in 1935. However, he again entertained troops during World War II, despite his age, and made wireless broadcasts with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He also appeared immediately after the war to thank the crews of American food relief ships docking at Glasgow. His last years were spent in his home of Lauder Ha' at Strathaven, where he died in February 1950, aged 79. Related: "old time music hall" "sir harry lauder" "a wee deoch-an-doris" "hmv 78 record."

Cardiff - HMVFri, 02 Jan 2009 15:06:47 -0800 by spidermanfan1992Just another video of me going to the Within Temptation section in HMV! I love this band so much and I love it when I see their albums and stuff :D And this also shows how busy it was that day :O There wasn't many WT left :O But they are the greatest band in the world, so you know, they would sell out ;) Once again, this video is just a video... a un-interesting video for those who aren't me. It's nothing special and I don't expect people to actually click on this lol. Unless they are a fellow WT fan! But I just filmed this for a friend hehe. oh and btw, I'm not as small as the camera makes me look lmao.. it's just I was holding the camera down at my waste so no one would notice it and try and steal it XD Related: cardiff hmv
