| Drawing and Talking Donald Duck with Tony Anselmo (Part 1/2)Thu, 08 Jan 2009 15:30:11 -0800 by EleraThis interview of Tony Anselmo, today's voice actor for Donald Duck since Clarence "Ducky" Nash's tragic death in 1985, can be found in the Walt Disney Treasures box set "The Chronological Donald Duck: Volume Two." I originally uploaded this earlier, and I think it got deleted because it was originally one long part. Let's find out if it was for another reason. 8|There have only ever been two voice actors behind Donald Duck in the United States, as this interview will tell you, and both of them are phenomenal. Clarence "Ducky" Nash just didn't play Donald...he WAS Donald. And fate has led Tony Anselmo to fill Clarence's legendary shoes...and thus far Tony's been a marvel at it. For those who don't spend their lives studying and watching these cartoons (freaks like me, haha), the difference between Nash and Anselmo is seamless. Tony's performance of Donald is clear and well annunciated under all that quacking, which is quite a feat considering Donald Duck is one of the most difficult (and dangerously famous) voices to imitate. He's got it all the tricks down, too - the mischievous little laugh, the disappointed little "ohhh...", the legendary temper tantrum, the incoherent muttering that usually follows, and every single other Donald mannerism you can think of. I'm sure when Nash's time was coming it must've been the most worrisome and depressing experience, thinking about how no one on Earth could possibly take on Donald's role (it's already proven to be such a mixed bag in the foreign markets). How lucky good ole Ducky spotted his successor and trained him so well, as Ducky only could. Rest in peace, Mr. Nash, and Mr. Anselmo, keep it up. You're doing swell.
