| The "Real" Surgery Is Starting...Thu, 08 Jan 2009 15:54:33 -0800 by kittensacattinI'm not being dramatic when I say that the Pain Management Team is fucking up. They have started changing my pain medication every 6-12 hours. When they take away one method, they start another half-assed trial. I've had 3 different residents change things already. There is a huge lack of communication in this hospital. My surgeon has a 'fellow' who takes care of everything for him, but is still unsure of the protocol in situations out of her control. | Obama unveils plan to fuel economyThu, 08 Jan 2009 15:03:12 -0800 by UPIVideoHello and Happy New Year. This is a UPI White House Weekly.President-ele ct Barack Obama is calling for urgent action on a plan to jumpstart the economy. At a news conference today, Obama announced his idea that he says would save or create more than 3 million jobs and invest in health, energy and education. Republicans say the plan would only deepen the nation's enormous debt. They say it should focus more on tax cuts than spending. Obama addressed his critics saying that at this time, only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift the U.S. from a recession. As part of Obama's plan to stabilize the economy, the President-elect created a new position. Obama announced this week that he has chosen Nancy Killefer to be his chief performance officer. Killefer is a senior director at a management consulting firm and was an assistant secretary of the treasury in the Clinton administration. She will be responsible for restoring fiscal order and reforming government. The President-elect is facing heavy criticism over his choice to head the CIA. Obama is reportedly set to nominate former Congressman and Clinton aide Leon Panetta to the post, but he has little intelligence experience. He also failed to consult Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee before news was leaked on Monday. The President-elect apologized and defended Panetta's management and political skills. He also promised that he was putting together a top-notch intelligence team. Despite the drama, Panetta's confirmation is not expected to draw strong opposition.Obama said goodbye to Chicago and officially moved to Washington, D.C this week. The future First Family is staying at the famous Hay Adams Hotel. The Obamas will move into the White House on Inauguration Day, January 20. Meanwhile, Obama's daughters, Sasha and Malia, started school on Monday at Sidwell Friends, a place that has been teaching children of U.S. presidents since the days of Teddy Roosevelt. That's all for now. | Brave Belt (Another Way Out)Thu, 08 Jan 2009 14:30:05 -0800 by Termite58Brave Belt was a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba originally consisting of Randy Bachman (guitar/vocals), his former Guess Who bandmate, Chad Allan (lead vocals/keyboards), and Randy's brother Robbie (drums). Randy also provided bass tracks for the recording of the band's first album, Brave Belt I (Reprise Records, 1971). But C.F. "Fred" Turner was added shortly after as bassist for the supporting concerts.[1]The band made the Canadian Top 40 with the minor hit "Crazy Arms, Crazy Eyes", which peaked at #35 in November of 1971. However, they missed the US charts completely. When Allan left the band in 1971, Turner became the lead vocalist for the Brave Belt II album (1972). During the supporting tours for Brave Belt II, Tim Bachman was added as a second guitarist.[1] After this lineup (C.F. Turner with Randy, Tim and Robbie Bachman) had shopped around the demo that was supposed to be a Brave Belt III album, new management convinced them to change their name. They eventually settled on Bachman-Turner Overdrive.Though Brave Belt is relatively unknown some 35+ years later, the importance of the band was summed up by Randy Bachman in a 2001 interview: "It was an innocent time of soul-searching. Nobody would play with me when I left The Guess Who. I was completely black-listed. I couldn't get a decent musician to play with me, except Chad Allan, who had also been in The Guess Who and left. He and I bonded together, and I might not have gotten started without him, even though he left sometime after that first album. Those [Brave Belt] albums are so important to me because, for the first time, I was making my own music, paying for it, finding strengths in it, and going through the process of finding the right music for the record. It led to me becoming a stronger producer for BTO."[2] Related: rock classic k-she | |
